Evictions: Lockdown 2.0 Through the trials and tribulations of COVID-19, we have seen the rules regarding evictions take a rocky road. As we entered a second national UK lockdown on 5th November, it was confirmed that a ban on bailiff enforcement will be in place until 11th January 2021 at the earliest. This date also concludes the end of the ‘Christmas Truce’ which was announced in September and originally set to start on 11th December in England and Wales. This was to ensure bailiffs would not be able to reinforce repossessions for a month over the Christmas period, however, with the current lockdown ending on 2nd December, it has now been extended. It had previously been agreed that areas in lockdown would not have evictions enforced by bailiffs across the country unless in extreme cases which include anti-social behaviour and fraud, which remains true until the end of the ‘Christmas Truce’.
